The only thing in the reader's digest that I've ever laughed at

I have a bittersweet relationship with the Reader's Digest. On one hand, I'm grateful that I've never read a quote from Britney Spears in Quotable quotes. I depend on the Reader's Digest to condense books like Anna Karenina so I can actually read them. "Don't cheat on your husband or you'll get hit by a train". Ok, so that wasn't in the Reader's Digest, but it should have been. On the other hand, I'm emotionally scarred from the fact that people submit jokes & are paid hundreds of dollars to be not funny. I think this sets a dangerous precedent.

So, here's the only thing that I've ever laughed at from the reader's digest. I'm not going to quote it directly because that edition is all the way down stairs & I'm lazy. Besides the fact that I don't want to break copyright laws, so I'll just risk misquoting them & gross blogging negligence. Several parents have reported that their children were complaining that a "weird man" came to their school & sang them "scary songs". The school administration wasn't worried about it. Why? The man is Bob Dylan who sings at his grandkid's school.

Hahaha! I think if I was a child, I'd be freaked out by Dylan too :)

That's hysterical! And I love Reader's Digest. That's how my parents had "tough conversations" with us growing up--they'd leave RD open to an article on teen pregnancy or drug use in the bathroom, knowing that our whole family is incapable of doing what needs to be done there without reading. Turns out it was a pretty effective strategy.

Hahahahaha! Yah, he rather does look like a parody of evil at the moment. But oh man, that is funny.

Very interesting boiling down of Tolstoy you did there. If only he had been as brief.

I used to love Readers' Digest. I thought it was such "adult" reading until I was about 12. :)

Sigh. I've been derelict in my blogging duties. So behind. Happy Turkey Day! :)
