I'm more old fashioned than I thought

I'm as forward thinking as they come. Whenever anyone talks about where we'll be in 2020, I still maintain that we will all be living on the moon by then. The second they build a hover car I'm going to buy it, because it's a car & it hovers & that is awesome.

There are limits to my forward thinking-ness. (See? I invent new words, that's forward.) Now since I don't have kids, babies in general all look the same to me. So when I meet a new baby, I usually take cues from their outfits as to what their gender is so I can say "hello new baby boy" If the outfit is green or yellow I just say "hello new baby, it's nice to meet you." I try not to say "hello new baby boy or girl" because I'm classy like that. If that fails I just say "What is your name?" hoping the parents will answer & give me a clue or the baby will suddenly learn how to talk & their first words will be "I'm a boy".

So yes you can be forward thinking & dress your new infant girl in a blue sleeper. However, you really forfeit your right to be offended if people think she is a boy. Especially, if your kid is named Ryan. How am I supposed to know it's spelled Rian? Seriously, in 2020 when I'm driving my hover car on the moon, I'll still think baby Rian is a boy. Yes, I know that hover cars will work a lot easier on the moon but still it's a car & it hovers & that is awesome.

i'm with you on the name thing. one of the professors here has kids with the names Harper and Ryan...both girls. i was confused for days.

i should have figured that harper was a girl at least since i've read (and loved) To Kill a Mockingbird, but it just didn't want to sink in.

TOTALLY feeling the problem.
and, i have to admit, i have a baby problem. i don't know if i want one of my own, but i CANNOT stop myself from talking to random babies that i come across...i think they like it.

i am not sure that their parents are as thrilled.

I'm not sure I'll be quick to buy a hover car...I'm just now warming up to the whole hybrid idea. You're so right about the name thing, though. Ryan/Rian/Rien is a boy.

You are such a freaking RIOT! My 2nd son's name is an either-gender name. Although, the way I spell it, it's the boy spelling. But you never spell your kid's name when introducing them. So I still get people trying to find tactful ways of asking. Just ask. For the love of Pete. If I'm stupid enough to not realize I've used a cross gender name, then I deserve to get tacky askings.

When you get your hover car, can you come take me for a hover?

I'd love to hear 'I'm a boy' come out of some baby's mouth. A girl baby's would be better. ;)

I tagged you!

So true. Go have a cookie. Something with pink icing. You deserve it for putting up with stupid offended parents lacking in common sense.
