On the Prowl

It used to be that I just couldn't find a mate who would put up with my idea that wedding vows should be based off of Eve 6 lyrics. (I promise not to mess with your mind.)

Now not only can I not find that, I also can't find basic household objects. I have a wish list sitting on my night stand, you know dream big and all, for what will hopefully be my new apartment. Sadly, the most impossible item to locate is a garbage can. They aren't called cans anymore they are receptacles. I'm not even talking about the kind with wheels you take to the street. I'm talking about the garbage cans you put in the kitchen. Apparently they now all cost $50-$200. I don't need a stainless steel garbage can, I don't have stainless steel appliances. The garbage receptacle shouldn't get better treatment than me. I just need a can to put garbage in, is that really asking so much? The real reason I haven't purchased them is that all garbage cans are now robotic. Just wave your hand in front of the sensor and the lid automatically opens so you can drop your trash in.

This is wrong because:

1. Remember that thing called the recession?
2. I never came in contact with garbage or germs the old fashioned way. My garbage can didn't even have a lid. I just dropped the garbage inside the can. It worked. It didn't cost $200.
3. Going green has become an obsession. Apparently, it doesn't apply to serious matters like automated garbage cans that run on 4 D batteries or optional power adapter. Seriously. You have to plug in your garbage can now? It serves you right if the thing secretly has a mind of its own and attacks you while you sleep.

Surely Target can come to your aid???

(My MIL has this trash can. I personally think it's overkill--or overtrashing).

Seriously? That's totally crazy. Surely walmart must have a cheapo plastic container.

I just purchased an overpriced trash can last weekend actually. I should have waited to find one that I can plug in or one that squeals "Ew!" when the contents become too smelly.

Thank you, once again, for pointing out how ridiculous we've gotten. I confess to the stainless steel garbage can. I thought it would keep THAT DOG out of the garbage. I was wrong. Apparently, trash tastes BETTER when it's pulled from a can that cost more than our microwave or our fridge.

Actually, I was looking for what we NZers call "rubbish bins" the other day, too - because my current one is old and skody. And I had EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM. It's a woridwide conspiracy. This is the beginning of the end of the human race; the robots are coming!

I bought one of the cheaper white plastic bins with a swinging lid. After about one month of being annoyed by the lid (dropping into the bin or just being gross and dirty), we removed it. Now I have a white plastic kitchen sized bin with a bag inside and if it gets stinky, I take it out sooner.

I refuse to plug in my garbage can. That's silly. It's silly enough that I need 3 phone numbers.
