Why being single at Christmas rocks

Everyone is so down when they are single at Christmas. Not Sarakastic, it's one of the few things I have a positive viewpoint on.

1. No Christmas shopping for boring boy stuff. No hanging out in sporting goods or electronics stores. I get to spend that money on my annual gift to myself. (This year it was a pair of peridot & blue topaz earrings in sterling silver).
2. You can have a metallic pink Christmas tree if you want. All decorating decisons are up to you.
3. No in-laws. You can spend Christmas with your own family or friends.
4. You get lots of sympathy & extra presents. None of that "family gift" stuff for you, it's yours, all yours.
5. You can make your own traditions. If you want to spend one of the few days you get off of work eating cheetos in icecream (don't knock it until you've tried it), you can!
6. You have a reason to be cranky. You can walk around kicking people & no one will fault you for it. Use their misplaced sympathy to your advantage.

So this year if anyone mentions anything about how it must suck to be single at Christmas just recount your tales of freedom, the pink christmas tree, the earrings, the cheesey icecream & make them jealous.

Good for you!

Thanks for your comments at my place. I am wondering though. Do you put up the ornaments from your childhood? I am afraid my kids will think their ornaments are cheesy when they are adults!

Only if the ornament was near the Cheeto-infested Ice Cream. :)

It's over in a flash [the family Christmassy stuff] that's just the decorative trimmings. Your Christmas with your family and loved ones is something that can't be diminished. Don't be sucked in by the hype, but you already knew that by the looks of things. You could take a look at Unplug the Christmas Machine which I read soon after I came to the States. It will confirm your viewpoint far more eruditely than I can. Seasonal Greetings to you and yours.

I have a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. It's not bright-pink, but represents my curmodgeonly view of the world well enough.

I'd be pretty happy to sit in my jammies eating icecream for breakfast and reading books all day by myself on Christmas. THAT sounds like a celebration to me!

And a metallic pink christmas tree- sounds GREAT!

While this is true, if you had a boy-toy then he would be paying for it and you wouldn't have to be spending your own money... See there is an upside.

I do agree with the rest of your list though.. Not having a girlfriend just means the opposite. I don't have to hang around women clothes as she tries on 20 different pairs of the same jeans..
