Non Ninjas need not apply

First off, yes I'm trying to turn non ninja into an everyday phrase. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. If this were a TV show there would be wiggly lines moving across the room as we all moved into a flash back. If this were a good blog, I would probably just link to my other post where I said that I wanted to date a ninja. Fine, I gave into the unspoken blogging user friendliness & hyperlinked it. Secondly, about 90% of the guys who I've ever talked to or dated have called me a feminist within the first three minutes of meeting me. Most of them don't mean it as a compliment.

I was wondering why this is. I don' t usually let people know about how I think that "Boys are stupid & they smell bad" until the third or fourth date. In any other area, I would probably be labeled as conservative. The same people who call me feminist also call my values old fashioned. So when they call me feminist I take it to mean "You are smarter than me in a way that I don't understand". Why yes, yes I am thank you for noticing. I also have a tiara. The usual response to my somewhat abrasive nature is that I just haven't met the right guy or I've been hurt badly in the past.

Actually, it's the exact opposite. I've had wonderful people around me so I'm a lot less likely to put up with sucky people. Case in point, wherever my family has lived it's always been an hour away from the mall. It's a travesty I know. So ever since I was kid my Mom & I had to trek an hour away to shop. We did so yesterday.(The story really does get better in a second). This morning my Mom asked my Dad why he didn't use his day off yesterday to go hiking in the mountains which is his favorite thing to do but something he rarely has time for. He said that he wasn't able to go. She asked why. He said, well when you are driving that far I like to be at home & near a phone so if you get a flat tire you won't have to hitch hike. Then she realized that he has always done this. Every single time she has gone shopping out of town. For the entire 32 years of marriage. We've never noticed this, he's never asked for thanks or praise. He just simply made a small sacrifice so that he would be able to help if needed. I'm sure there are hundreds of things like that which I'll never know about. For the record my Dad doesn't worry excessively & my Mom is a good driver, just thought that I'd clarify that. Really how am I supposed to date a non ninja or someone like the The Cybernetic Wizard of Thoughts with such a good example around?

In a completely unrelated thought, I find Hugh Laurie aka House oddly attractive. It' something I'd only admit in the blogosphere. Maybe it's because the show is on Tuesday nights so it helps to squelch part of my post series Gilmore Girls withdrawals which I'm tryign to convince my doctor is an actual syndrome.

Oh, there's still time to check out this week's random act of bling the link is in the sidebar. (So much for blogging user friendliness. If we were going on another flashback it would be to 1998 so I could say the phrase "shout out" because anyone who reads this blog regularly definitely deserves it. I'll try to work more on my blogging user friendliness, but I'll never give up non ninja)

That is really sweet of your dad. I can see perfectly how those sort of parents would influence one in one's search for a Nice Boy.

Ok, I totally love your dad and now have added that quality to my 20 page questionnaire that I'm creating for any prospective suitors.

On the "boys are stupid" note, I got this great tshirt from Walmart last week. It's pink and says "I (skull & crossbones) stupid boys". I wore it the next day for when future ex came over to pick up more of his stuff. I also wore it on the plane to NJ. Met some drunk stupid boys who agreed with my shirt. At which time I was horrified that these drunk stupid boys were reading my chest. But they quickly moved on to talk about a coworker who was "too old" for their attentions. I mean, what with her being THIRTY and all.

I skull & crossbones stupid boys.

pssst...

i'll tell a secret as long as you promise to keep it between us and the blogosphere - i think Hugh Laurie is quite attractive, in a weird way.

Ohhh, that's so sweet of your dad... As a writer of the romance (maybe you've heard of it), I'm just totally goofy over that little story.

I found your blog via Alyssa Goodnight's blog, btw, and I'm glad I did!

How utterly sweet of your dad! And I love your mental translation for all those dweebs who approach you with the feminist jab. Yay for you!

Non-ninja it is then! :) I'll start spreading the word...maybe Dixie Carter can be our celebrity spokesperson! :)

And how sweet of your dad! Aww!

You can see I am very behind on reading blogs, but today I said, "How's that Sarakastic doing?"
Anyway, I can relate to your story. My dad can cook, sew (he used to be the one to sew my ribbons onto my ballet shoes), do all sorts of construction stuff...he's a real McGyver. Dating non ninjas is an absurd notion. I say hold out for a ninja. Yeah.
